First Time Brazilian Waxing

Getting a Brazilian wax for the first time can be a scary process, we at Absolute Body Waxing & Spa understand this, and love helping our first timers out anyway possible.  It may sound intimidating and scary, especially when you have no idea what to expect, but rest assured Absolute Body Wax has your back! To make your first Brazilian wax experience as pleasant as possible, we have decided to give this quick recap of how to get ready for your first wax and what you should do to make this experience as pleasant as possible.

  • Let your hair grow out.  The length of the hair for a successful wax should be at least ¼ of an inch (0,5 cm) or as long as a grain of rice.  We suggest that you do not shave for at least 2 weeks to achieve the desired length.  We also ask our clients not to trim the hair even if it appears too long.  All of our estheticians are trained on performing the wax on longer hair.  While trimming there is a chance of cutting the hair too short which may result in uneven wax.
  • Take a warm shower prior to your service.  It will prep the skin for waxing by opening the follicles.  Do not apply lotions or any other products to your skin since it will make the surface slippery and the wax will not adhere correctly.
  • Take an OTC painkiller 1 hour prior to your waxing service.  It will help to alleviate the pain.  (Keep in mind, some medications do thin out blood which makes bleeding more likely).
  • Make sure to wear loose cotton underwear to prevent the skin from rubbing against your skin causing more irritation.
  • If you are currently being treated by a dermatologist or a physician, write down the medications that you are currently using so that we could determine whether they interfere with waxing.
  • For our female clients, we recommend to book waxing services after their monthly cycle is over. The area tends to be a little less sensitive during this time.
  • Make sure you are not booking your first wax the day before any sports competitions or trips to the beach.  Allow your skin to heal for at least 24 hours before any vigorous activities (sexual activities included).
  • Always use the services of a reputable establishment for your wax and let your aesthetician know that it is your first Brazilian wax.
  • Follow all of the post waxing guidelines provided by your aesthetician to promote faster healing and minimize possible side effects.
