First Time Brazilian Waxing

Getting a Brazilian wax for the first time can be a scary process, we at Absolute Body Waxing & Spa understand this, and love helping our first timers out anyway possible.  It may sound intimidating and scary, especially when you have no idea what to expect, but rest assured Absolute Body Wax has your back! To make your first Brazilian wax experience as pleasant as possible, we have decided to give this quick recap of how to get ready for your first wax and what you should do to make this experience as pleasant as possible.

  • Let your hair grow out.  The length of the hair for a successful wax should be at least ¼ of an inch (0,5 cm) or as long as a grain of rice.  We suggest that you do not shave for at least 2 weeks to achieve the desired length.  We also ask our clients not to trim the hair even if it appears too long.  All of our estheticians are trained on performing the wax on longer hair.  While trimming there is a chance of cutting the hair too short which may result in uneven wax.
  • Take a warm shower prior to your service.  It will prep the skin for waxing by opening the follicles.  Do not apply lotions or any other products to your skin since it will make the surface slippery and the wax will not adhere correctly.
  • Take an OTC painkiller 1 hour prior to your waxing service.  It will help to alleviate the pain.  (Keep in mind, some medications do thin out blood which makes bleeding more likely).
  • Make sure to wear loose cotton underwear to prevent the skin from rubbing against your skin causing more irritation.
  • If you are currently being treated by a dermatologist or a physician, write down the medications that you are currently using so that we could determine whether they interfere with waxing.
  • For our female clients, we recommend to book waxing services after their monthly cycle is over. The area tends to be a little less sensitive during this time.
  • Make sure you are not booking your first wax the day before any sports competitions or trips to the beach.  Allow your skin to heal for at least 24 hours before any vigorous activities (sexual activities included).
  • Always use the services of a reputable establishment for your wax and let your aesthetician know that it is your first Brazilian wax.
  • Follow all of the post waxing guidelines provided by your aesthetician to promote faster healing and minimize possible side effects.

Getting Waxed & Hitched

As the blazing heat of central Florida begins to die down and the dry air rolls in, we are looking forward to the fall months and the beginning of the wedding season.  We, at Absolute Body Waxing and Spa, love servicing future newlyweds and their families.  On that special day, one wants everything to be as perfect as possible and since no expense is spared, a visit to the Spa salon becomes a must on the to-do list. We decided to share some advice on how to get the best results from your spa service before the wedding.

The most popular service for brides and grooms is definitely waxing.  By the wedding day, a honeymoon is usually booked and waxing seems to be a great way to avoid the hassle of shaving during your trip.  Now, if you are thinking about getting waxed before your wedding for the first time here’s what you need to know: it is always best to have a few waxing sessions before an actual event. Waxing can have side effects i.e. irritation, soreness, breakouts. etc.  Moreover, your first wax usually doesn’t last as long as it is supposed to due to possible hair breakage and different hair growth cycles.  For best results, plan to get your first wax 2 months prior to your wedding date.  Follow all the guidelines provided by our technicians.  Schedule your services within 4 weeks and make sure you book your wax no later than two days prior to your wedding day.  This way you will achieve the best results from waxing and make sure to minimize possible side effects.

If you want to get a facial before your wedding day, we must advise you that it is not such a great idea.  Occasional breakouts are particularly common after a facial.  The manipulations on the skin urge it to release the toxins which may lead to the growth of pustules and papules.  If you want to have a relaxing pleasure of spa facial before your wedding, please book it at least 1 week prior to your big day and always make sure you visit an experienced esthetician that utilizes safe practices and uses high-quality skincare products.

In recent years, eyelash extensions have gained a great popularity amongst the brides.  They give your eyes a dramatic yet natural look and last longer than strip lashes.  If your eyes tend to be sensitive and react to mascaras or eye makeup, ask your Esthetician to do a patch test before you would get a full set of extensions.  Patch test involves the application of a couple of lash extensions to each eye in order to see whether you develop an allergic reaction to the adhesive.  Once we determine that your eyes are not sensitive to the lash extensions, we will apply a full set.

A mani-pedi is a must before a wedding!  It is also the service with barely any side effects if performed correctly.  For best results, may we suggest gel polish for your manicures, since it lasts much longer than a regular polish?

If you have any more questions about booking any spa service before your wedding day, feel free to contact any of our staff members.

To start off the fall and the wedding season in Central Florida, we want to offer a new signature pumpkin spice mani-pedi and a facial with a hint of fall flavors!

Pedicure bowls instead of Spas?

A lot of thought was put into play when we decided to offer nail services at our Orlando location.  We wanted our nail services to be as natural as possible using the best natural ingredients that are both aromatic and healthy for the body and soul.  Pure Fuji and Keyano Aromatic both met our needs.  Have you ever walked into a salon and was immediately put off by the smell of harsh fumes?  That is one of the main reasons we do not offer nail extensions or acrylics at Absolute Body Waxing & Spa. The smell alone can ruin a spa experience when too many chemicals are in the air.

During our creative design stage for the nail area, we envisioned a tranquil atmosphere where people can come relax and get spa services from licensed individuals.  Our space had to be a safe harmonious area where clients are not bombarded by the unpleasant smells and noise pollution some places may have.  That is why our nail area is set aside away from the entrance in its own little nook.  When it came time to choose our foot bath, the pedicure bowl was a unanimous decision.  The reason behind that is quite simple.  Foot baths, like whirlpools, have jets and pipes that are very difficult to clean in an environment that ushers people through as quickly as a typical nail does. In order for a whirlpool tub to be deemed sterile, the jets have to run in clean water in hospital grade solution for at least 10-15 minutes.  Improper cleaning of whirlpools become a breeding ground for bacteria, fungus, yeast, and more.  Our bath bowls are immediately clean after the nail service using hospital grade disinfectants and rendered sterile through our rigorous cleaning regimen.

The quality of care we practice on your nails makes up for the jets we lack.  Our 10-15 minute massage will leave you in a blissful state.  Absolute Body Waxing & Spa pedicures typically last anywhere between 4 to 6 weeks (minus any vigorous foot straining activities such as running marathons etc.).  We welcome you to come try our pedicures and see the difference a germ-free environment can make on your mind, body, and soul.

What to Expect at a Spa Salon When You are Expecting

May is the month when we celebrate all Mothers and how much they mean to us. This month at Absolute Body Waxing & Spa, we wanted to focus on expectant mothers visiting our facility. Pregnancy is a special time in every woman’s life. We welcome all expectant mothers at our spa regardless of how far they are in their journey so we wanted to take a moment to answer any possible questions you might have before scheduling your appointment at Absolute Body Waxing & Spa.

Waxing services: Expectant mothers can receive all waxing services even Brazilian waxes.  It is believed to be safer than shaving during pregnancy. As your body changes shaving becomes more inconvenient and you have higher chances of cutting yourself or getting razor burns. Shaving creams and gels can disrupt the natural pH balance of the private areas which can then cause irritation. Receiving a Brazilian wax from a skilled and experienced professional will eliminate those risks. Generally, receiving a wax during pregnancy will not be more painful than usual if you come in during the recommended 4-6 weeks’ time frame. To ensure the most comfortable experience, please notify your esthetician that you are expecting ahead of time so that we can ensure the safest and most comfortable waxing experience for you.

Facials and facial treatments: Getting a facial is a great way to relax and unwind while adding benefits to your skin. At Absolute Body Waxing & Spa, we use the most advanced skin care products available on the market. It is very important that you mention to your esthetician that you are pregnant so that they can customize your facial choosing the safest and most beneficial products. Although certain cosmetic ingredients like AHA and/or BHA (acids) and treatments like chemical peels have not been proven to be safe for expectant or lactating mothers and should be avoided, there is still a wide range of facials that can be performed. Enzyme peels and microdermabrasions are safe and effective services that can be performed on anyone. Our Image Skin Care line carries the most gentle and potent products for home care use as well.

Nail services: It might be uncomfortable to take care of your toenails while you are pregnant so let Absolute Body Waxing & Spa Nail Technicians take care of that for you! We utilize the safest resin bowls for our pedicures. They do not have jets which may harbor harmful bacteria and viruses.  Our resin bowls are easily cleaned and sanitized to eliminate any chances of cross contamination. We also use the highest quality of nail products by Keyano Aromatics, Pure Fiji and OPI; furthermore, all of our tools are sanitized with hospital grade cleansers. Nevertheless, we ensure the most pleasant and safest nail experience for all our clients!

Lash services: Lash enhancements are generally safe for everyone. However, they do require the client to stay still in the supine position with their eyes closed for over 2 hours for a full set of lashes. For your comfort, we do offer an elevated bed.  Many of our clients find that it is quite relaxing and use the opportunity to take a quick nap, however if you are not sure that you will be capable of laying down for such a prolonged period of time, you might want to wait until after you give birth.

We hope that we answered all the questions you might have about visiting our spa while being pregnant. If you still have any doubts or need more information, feel free to contact us by clicking here and we will gladly provide you with more details. We look forward to seeing you at our spa!

The Winter Dos and Don’t of Skin Care

We at Absolute Body Wax came across this interesting article about the winter dos and don’ts of skin care. Although we do not get much of a winter in Central Florida, it is important to maintain your skin in Florida’s cooler weather. Check out our Image Skincare line the next time you pop in. At the end of the blog, you’ll find the original link to this article.

If it isn’t the Blizzard of 2015, it’s freezing temperatures — and both are messing with our skin. The life seems to just get sucked out of our pretty faces this time of year, leaving us with dull, dried out and dehydrated skin. Luckily, there’s always a miracle beauty product to combat Mother Nature’s wrath, and here is a little refresher on the dos and don’ts of winter skincare.

Do

Carry hand lotion at all times. Dried out skin on the hands is common and very uncomfortable, so when you’re not wearing gloves, keep them moisturized with your favorite lotion.
Hook up the humidifier. Heaters are notorious for sucking the moisture out of skin. Keep the mister flowing overnight, so you’ll wake up with soothed and hydrated skin.
Boost your skincare routine. We’ve discussed trading in a harsh cleanser for a more gentle cleansing balm, but don’t stop there. Layer on a serum booster — like one with hyaluronic acid — to increase skin’s hydration.

Don’t

Take long, hot showers. The heat from a longer than usual steamy shower causes skin to lose its oil barrier fast, causing itchy, dry skin.
Skip the body lotion. To remedy flaky skin, reaching for the lotion post-shower is a must. It’s one of those steps that is easy to overlook, but you’ll be glad you did it once your skin gets the relief and moisture it needs.
Over-exfoliate. We’re all for a scrub down (or even a peel!) to remove those dead skin cells and reveal that glowy skin. But overdoing it will irritate and chap the skin, so proceed with caution.

The Face Area You’re Not Exfoliating But Should Be

It’s no secret that thick brows are in. But, could skipping a simple skin care step on this specific area of the face be what’s standing in between you and the bold look? According to celebrity eyebrow specialist, Elke Von Freudenberg, it is. “Exfoliation on the brow area not only removes dead skin under the hairs, but can also help with hair growth by stimulation and giving circulation to the hair follicle,” she says. “It’s the same premise as brushing your hair every day. The more circulation to the hair, the better and faster it can grow.”

What to Look for
For starters, you want a scrub that is stronger than your facial scrub. “Most facial scrubs are too soft for stimulation,” Von Freudenberg says. “They’re fine for exfoliation, but not enough to really get circulation going, which is the important part.” But stay away from a body scrub, which can be too harsh for this area, and avoid anything with salt, as it stings if it gets in your eyes.

How to Scrub for Best Results
“I recommend using the scrub nightly. Scrub the eyebrow area where you want growth, or if you want thicker brow overall, scrub above the brow, through and below the brow. Scrub for one minute each for both brows,” Von Freudenberg says.

When to Clean Up the Strays
According to Von Freudenberg, to get thicker brows, you really only need one to three more rows to make a difference—which really isn’t that much. “A row can be both below or above the eyebrows and you’ll see faster growth along the tops as the hairs are thicker and grow faster,” she says. “Clean up all the crazy stray hairs that are growing way too far below the brow and focus on that row or two below to get thicker. Once your brows are a little cleaner looking, growing them in seems and looks easier.”

What’s new????

Hi everyone!!! You know how at Absolute Body Wax we are always looking for something new and exciting to share with our clients. This time we wanted to share some of our recent discoveries.

First of all we’ve got something that you have been asking for:topical analgesic! Yes! You heard me right! We now sell numbing cream that will alleviate the pain associated with waxing. Just apply it 40 minutes before your wax and let the cream work its magic. It contains Benzocaine, an FDA approved topical analgesic! So if you really don’t like the stinging sensation that waxing gives you or you are really worried about your first wax stop by Absolute Body Wax to get your tube today ($19.50 for 1 oz)

We also got something new to make your wax last longer. Using Hair retarding serum after waxing slows down the hair growth and after applying it around 10 times may give you results similar to laser hair removal. Even though it sounds a little scary but this product is composed of natural fruit enzymes mixed with moisturizing serum. You’ve probably heard of enzyme’s exfoliating properties so the serum will also help to reduce the amount of ingrown hairs.

Finally, we have also been fascinated with ethnic beauty secrets and how we can incorporate this knowledge and products in your routine. We are pleased to announce that we have started retailing Moroccan Black Soap and Kessa exfoliating gloves. Moroccan black soap, called Beldi, has been utilized for hundreds of years in hamams, middle eastern variant of Roman baths for cleansing and deep exfoliation of the skin. Beldi is a natural olive oil based soap composed of only five ingredients. If you use it according to the instructions that we provide you may see your dead skin actually rolling off of your body. It provides great exfoliation for smooth skin and decreases the amount of ingrown hairs. Both soap and exfoliating glove are imported from Agadir, Morocco.

Stop by Absolute Body Wax to find out more information about products and services that we offer.
